Beating the Challenge of Dental Insurance

Tired of dealing with questions of insurance? Sometimes it feels like everyone is caught in an unending trap. We require insurance for so many things: cars, homes, health, life. Yet it can be so hard getting insurance, and the benefits can be so questionable.

There is an alternative to insurance, at least where the care of your teeth and your family’s are concerned. Consider setting up a dental savings plan, either privately, through your bank, or through your dentist. By creating a growing fund you not only ensure that the regular needs of dental care are met, but you also develop an account with money to cope with the extraordinary, and at the same time create a minor reserve of money that, in complete emergencies, can be drawn on for other purposes.

Insurance is a form of gambling: you gamble that you will become hurt, ill, or in need of some form of care that will cost more than the price you pay over time to the company. The company gambles the other way, believing that it has set its premiums high enough to ensure that, no matter how sick you get, you and your fellow customers will pay in more than the insurance company will ever have to pay out. The insurance company usually wins.

Dental savings plans, however, are not a gamble: they are just what they sound like. They are savings plans established to provide funds for future need. By working in tandem with your dental health provider you are the one in control of the statistics. You can work out the likely costs of dental care over your lifetime, the likely emergencies you will have to face, the extra bit you should tuck away in case of blindingly bad luck.

But you will never, ever have to spend money above and beyond what the actual care of your dental health requires. There is no loser in a dental savings plan, only winners: you spend only what the actual care of your teeth costs. Your dentist wins by knowing the funding is there, without having to fight his own battle with the gambling masters of the insurance companies. Everyone wins.

As an alternative to insurance, a dental savings plan provides you with a versatile, sensible approach to financing your dental needs. Even if you already have basic dental insurance privately or through your employer, having a dental savings plan makes sense. It provides you with true savings that, if never used, can become collateral for various projects, or be spent outright in catastrophe.

Likewise it can be used to ensure that you can pay for items not covered by your insurance. If you want cosmetic work done the only reliable way to provide for the costs may be through out-of-pocket expense…and using a dental savings plan ensures you deeper pockets than otherwise.

In some instances, if you establish a dental savings plan with your dental provider, he will be able to give you benefits as a bonus advantage. By making sure your dentist knows his bills will be paid, and by creating a fund that he, too, benefits from in many ways, you make his life easier; easier still in those situations where insurance either would not meet demands, or would make the paperwork level agonizing for the dentist and his staff.

Look into the possibility of a dental savings plan. Ask your dental provider if he offers such, check to see if your bank provides similar special use plans, and, if there is no other way, just sent up a plan as you would an educational savings plan, through your banking service. The benefits outweigh the cost no matter how you look at it.
