Sun and Smiles: Dental Costs in Florida

Everyone wants to look their very best in Florida, and this includes the appearance of their teeth. As such, dental costs are an important issue.

Whether they are the bright, shining smiles on handsome young men and beautiful women strolling the beaches, or attending many of Florida’s fine colleges and universities, those smiles are maintained by Florida’s fine dental professionals: dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, oral surgeons, and dental prosthetics manufacturers. What nature has given us, dental professionals maintain, repair and improve.

But dental care does not come without dental costs, even in Florida, and if you are going to be ready for those costs you need to make plans ahead of time. Those costs can be imposing. Even for standard care, dental costs are rising. With the cost of training and overhead spiking higher year by year, dental professionals are unable to lower their prices beyond cost in most situations. That means you have to take control.

There are a wide array of ways to prepare for future dental costs. The first, most simple and conservative approach is to develop a savings and investment plan specifically to cover dental costs. The challenge here, as in any savings or investment plan, is to stick with it, build it knowing your future costs are likely to increase with age and inflation, and be prepared for times like the present, when markets fall and income from savings and investment drop.

The other approach is to get some form of dental insurance. If you are one of the lucky who hold insurance as an employer-provided benefit, then you can breathe a deep sigh of relief: your standard dental costs are covered, though even you may want to look into insurance to cover cosmetic or non-essential procedures.

If you have no employer-provided coverage, then be sure to look into individual insurance coverage. In many cases dental insurance can cost less than three-hundred dollars a year — a steal compared to other forms of medical insurance.

There are two primary forms of dental insurance: PPOs (preferred provider organization, a form of managed medical plan, like an HMO), and indemnity plans. PPOs, like all forms of managed medical plan, control their dental costs by limiting choice of professionals you may deal with, and treatments you can obtain. Indemnity plans control their costs by charging higher premiums for the liberty that comes with more choice of dental provider and a wider range of possible treatments. Either can serve you when you are preparing for your dental health future.

Florida is a land of sun and smiles: happy people with lovely teeth. You, too, can join them, smiling wide in the certainty that you have planned for your dental care now and in the future, controlling the dental costs that face you, and preparing for the treatments you need and desire.

The Solstice Dental Plan for Florida residents is a great way to save money on the high cost of dental treatment.

    2. We try and educate our patients, but the best thing they can do is practice good daily dental hygeine and visit their dentist once or twice per year, miminum.
